At a gala function held at Sydney’s Bankstown
Sports Club and presented by industry stalwart Barry Crocker,
the late Tony Pantano was clearly emotional when it was announced he had
received the ‘MO’ Award' for “Best Male Vocalist” for a record
thirteenth time.
It was a fitting tribute to an entertainer who gained
international acclaim and for a gentleman who was without doubt
one of Australia's most likable showbiz personalities.
Tony was the epitome of the true professional whose performances
not only showcased his rich, warm voice but also an incredibly
varied repertoire which covered anything from ballads to
classical and rock.
And of course let's not forget the wit and charm with which it
was all delivered that placed Tony amongst the very best of the
world's cabaret artists.
Numerous appearances on national television, performances in
just about every notable venue in Australia and many overseas
(including a memorable night at the Olympia Theatre in Paris)
were all interspersed with regular stints on the most
luxurious ocean cruise liners that sail the seven seas.
Tony was constantly in demand for cruising engagements
always delivering stand out performances whether it was on a cruise
from the magical island of Rhodes to the
vibrant Emirates city of Dubai aboard P&O’s Dawn Princess or tropical cruises to Bali, the South Pacific or the Caribbean aboard Holland America Lines.
Tony was a permanent headline act for over seven years at
Melbourne's Crown Towers Hotel & Casino performing weekly in the Oak Room, Las Vegas Lounge and the prestigious JJ's Bar & Grill. He still holds the record
for claiming the MO Award for "Best Male Vocalist" in Australia,
won the Gold Award for "Entertainer Of The Year" (twice) and
received multiple nominations for the Ace Awards' "Best Male
Vocalist".
In later years Tony was still busy in the recording studio
producing a number of various song compilation CDs which continue to be
distributed internationally
via the popular iTunes Music Store.
To list all of Tony's achievements, anecdotes and career
highlights supported by an impressive photo gallery featuring
some of the world's most renowned performers would really
require a separate dedicated web site of its own!
As long time administrator of Tony's catalogue of original songs, GMP acknowledges the unfillable void left
by such a talented
artist and pays homage to him for his remarkable and significant contribution to the
Australian music scene.
